Creation of a written thesis accompanied by a visual project, analyzing the relationship between a chosen film and contemporary society.

Concept

The Platform (Il buco) offers a powerful metaphor for social inequality, depicting the society as a tiered system in which a few have more than enough, while many are left with nothing. While most remain indifferent, a few attempt to change the system, raising in me the following questions: Is changing the world just a utopian dream? Are those who try seen as fools?

 My conclusion is this: in truth, we are all fools. In a society more informed than ever, we continue to repeat the same mistakes, justify inequality and embrace selfish and consumerist behaviors.

Solution

The visual project takes shape through a series of graphic compositions that reflect the film’s oppressive atmosphere, using dark backgrounds. The contrast between filled and empty spaces becomes a visual metaphor for the imbalance between excess and deprivation. Key quotes from the film are highlighted and paired with short reflections that connect its themes to today’s social realities.
